Finally! A dream come true.

I volunteer my time at the Lionheart Newbie Center as its Senior Mentor. Sometimes, I’m really busy and as much as I’d love to always be available for residents looking to get their questions answered… I just have to be realistic. I’m just not always available.

Sometimes I’m busy with a customer of my own, in the middle of a labor intensive build or simply logged into Second Life but not actually at my desk (with me, this is usually the case if I’m “busy”).

The original pager at the Lionheart Newbie Center was basically a panel on the wall at the entrance that residents could click on in order to page all of the mentors that were currently online. The problem was that it also showed all of our names in hovertext above the panel and this started to cause problems as residents started messaging the mentors directly and getting rather upset when they weren’t responded to since they were actually messaging people who were online but not available.

This happens to me a lot since I don’t log out and simply put up my “Busy” status while I’m sleeping. And then residents don’t get help and they get annoyed and never come back. So it also really puts the estate as a whole in bad lighting. But today, a new pager was installed thanks to fellow mentor Tylendel Falconer.

What’s Changed?

• Mentor HUD: Use to set self to either available or unavailable
• No more hovertext above the pager panel
• New hovertext shows the number of available mentors – rather than how many are online.

I’m really excited about this and I hope that it will mean more mentors in the program. Currently, you need to be a resident of Lionheart Estate to join the program. If you’re interested in buying land, let me know!
