You're doing a great job with the CoC! I'm still having Viewer/OS compatibility issues, missing everyone at Lionheart.

Happy Birthday by the way! xoxo

Thanks! I have RL counterparts for most of the links I provided - and then some. It's important to me that I be able to promote myself one way or another. I look at it this way... Not everyone on Second Life knows me as Kimi Wilson. Not everyone in real life knows me as Sookie Slafford. But the two aren't mutually exclusive to one another and there's been plenty of crossover. It just so happens that depending on the type of community and the pool of people I wish to swim among determines which name I am most often addressed as.

This is a great post. I think there's a lot more to the argument over Google's ToS but the hyper-emotional reaction to this lingering question has gotten wildly out of control. But that's the internet for you, and also how people will use it. Sensationalism is the news trend of the 21st century and all anybody cares about is how it makes them feel. The emotional impotence is palpable and the bullshit count rises with every "share" button clicked.

In the meantime, I'm still sticking with facebook and 2H. Honestly, once all the crying and moaning is put aside, all I really see leftover is a bunch of animated gifs depicting how much of facebook's ass G+ kicks. It's a ridiculous dichotomy. When I go to my facebook tab, it's light-hearted quipping about serial killers, roofies and baked goods. It's a much more fun environment.

But let me know if they ever stfu about this.

I get the impression that ads are shown to -other- signed in users. I really have no idea. I should go look at your site (and some others) while actually logged into Wordpress.com and test it - just in hopes of gaining some clarity. Seems stupid to charge someone like $30 for removing something that isn't there, ya know? Silly Wordpress... Trix are for... wait, wrong saying.

Like I said, Wordpress.com is great for a lot of people and it comes with tools already pre-installed. The software download is just that - the software. Those bells and whistles that come with a Wordpress.com blog are not the software. They are plugins created by a third party and are easily obtained from the Plugins area on the dashboard. It's simply a matter of doing a search, downloading and activating them.

Gravatar exists for self-hosted Wordpress. You may have noticed that your picture is showing up next to the comments you are leaving... because the email address you are using to comment with is already associated with a Gravatar account. :D Gravatar.com is the website to go to if one wanted to add emails or even start a new account.

My point is that like I said, the Wordpress.org download is literally just for the software. It's completely customizable and is the appropriate option if you're wanting a more customized experience. Sure, the font color can be changed in the posts, but then you have to edit that... every single time. How annoying. That doesn't change the typography in the widgets, footers, headers, etc. If that doesn't bother you, then that's cool... it's why Wordpress.com is the option for you... just as it is for millions of other bloggers.

I'm a Wordpress obsessed junkie... I enjoy pushing the software to its limitations (if there are any... because I've seen full scale websites using Wordpress that aren't even blogs lol). That's why Wordpress.com isn't an option for me. I enjoy the option of tearing the software apart. :D

Don't get me wrong - I'm not critiquing your view on things per se; just why I personally like the pre-hosted site as a matter of convenience. Like I said, it really is horses for courses, rather than trying to sell one over the other.

The ads thing though, that's a direct observation from my time with Wordpress.com (started Dec 2006); nary an advert on any of my sites, so like you, no idea what they are on about :). As to changing text colours, this is possible in Wordpress.com ; the editor includes a colour picker for body text; the only limitation is post titles. Might be easier to point people to toe tool ribbon on their Wordpress.com text editor in future :).

The features those hosting sites were asking about were things like gravatars and other site-configurable bits, so yeah, they might rely on additional plugins for the downloadable version. All I know is that when trying to help those with their own hosted sites & guide them through options, I got a number of "That option isn't in my site tools", generally followed by a later comment that it couldn't be found, period.

Again, not critiquing your choice - I admire your site a lot; just speaking as a seasoned Wordpress.com user on a couple of small things :).
